Today’s Cubs Birthdays (April 28)

~Luis Quinones 1962– (Cubs 1987)
The Cubs acquired him in a straight up mustache for mustache swap (Ron Cey) with the A’s. Luis played exactly one season for the Cubs (1987) as a utility infielder, and hit a whopping .218, but Quinones was a welcome addition to the Cubs bench because of his good glove. In fact, we will go so far as to say that Luis is the greatest Cubs player (with a mustache and a last name beginning with Q) of all-time. You read that right. And we stand by our bold statement. ~John Gaub 1985– (Cubs 2011)
The Cubs picked up John in the Mark DeRosa trade to the Indians on New Year’s Eve 2008 (along with pitcher Chris Archer and Jeff Stevens). Gaub was a major leaguer for exactly two weeks in September of 2011. He pitched out of the bullpen for the Cubs as a situational lefty. In four appearances he pitched a total of 2.2 innings and gave up two runs. By 2013 he was out of baseball and studying for his business degree.

~Walt Woods 1875–1951 (Orphans 1898)
Walt was in the rotation for the Cubs (then known as the Orphans) in 1898 and started 22 games. To say he didn’t have a strikeout pitch would be an understatement. In 214 innings pitched, he struck out only 26 men. Woods later pitched for Louisville and Pittsburgh.
