Mission Statement

Every Friday the JOBC staff scours the internet to bring you Cubs-related video and audio you might not have seen or heard before.

This week in 1920, the Chicago police, dressed as soldiers and farmers, raid the Wrigley Field bleachers arresting two dozen Cubs' fans for gambling as Grover Cleveland Alexander blanks the Phillies, 6-0.

Grover was a complicated man, and his story is tragic and inspiring. Ken Burns featured this piece about him in his Baseball documentary.

This is also the anniversary of Michael Barrett punching AJ Pierzyski (May 20, 2006). Found this entertaining little video on YouTube about the incident.

This week in 1990, Andre Dawson set a major league record by being intentionally walked five times in one game. How is this man not in the Hall of Fame? Cubs fan Michael Gellis created this video asking the same question.

This week our Tales from a Bad Century was about William Walker, the president of the Cubs in 1934. 1934 was a memorable year in Chicago for something that had nothing to do with baseball. Public Enemy #1, John Dillinger, was shot dead outside the Biograph Theater on Lincoln Avenue. Both of these videos are very cool.
