Mission Statement

Every Friday the JOBC staff scours the internet to bring you Cubs-related video and audio you might not have seen or heard before.

One of our favorite TV shows of the 1970s was the Bob Newhart Show. We didn't just love it because it was set in Chicago, or because they showed so many shots of Chicago, or because Newhart himself was from Chicago.

We loved it because it was funny.

One of our all-time favorite episodes was about The Chicago Cubs. Newhart's character played a psychiatrist, and in this particular episode, one of his patients happened to pitch for the Cubs. The entire episode can be viewed via the new website "Hulu," or right here, right now...

A few weeks ago we posted a tribute to the 1960s Left Field Bleacher Bums, which has gotten tremendous response. If you liked that video (created by Jack Herbon), you'll love the two other videos he has posted at YouTube. One is entitled "One Hundred Years of Tears" and the other is called "Left Field Bleacher Bums, Part 2".

Also, congrats to Just One Bad Century reader Ted Norstrom on the release of his CD, "Believe it, Achieve it." Every song on the CD is about the Cubs, including a song inspired by this website called "Just One Bad Century." (AUDIO) Check out the entire album here: www.musicforcubsfans.com

And finally, this week in 1955, the most famous musical about baseball, "Damn Yankees" debuted on Broadway. Since that doesn't tie-in to the Cubs, we wanted to show you what Wrigley Field looked like when Damn Yankees was playing on Broadway. This awesome video shot by the WGN-TV crew was posted on the Tribune website on Opening day: Opening Day, Wrigley Field 1955. The Cubs beat the Cardinals that day 14-4.

Tuesday is the 10 year anniversary of Kerry Wood striking out 20 batters in a game. Here's a little audio to remember that magical day

If you have any Cubs songs you've written or discovered, let us know and we'll feature it on a future episode of "Sights & Sounds." E-mail our editor-in-chief Rick Kaempfer at rick@justonebadcentury.com
