Mission Statement

Every Friday the JOBC staff scours the internet to bring you Cubs-related video and audio you might not have seen or heard before.

On May 15, 1960, Cubs pitcher Don Cardwell pitched a no-hitter in his first start with his new team. Watch the last few outs of that memorable game. This is a really cool glimpse back in time. Jack Brickhouse is doing the play by play...

This week we told the tale about Jackie Robinson's brave first visit to Wrigley Field. White players may not have been thrilled, but the African-American community was beside itself with pride. Two songs came out over the next few years in honor of Jackie.

AUDIO: Did you see Jackie Robinson hit that ball? by Count Basie and his Orchestra from 1949.

AUDIO: Robbie-Dobie Boogie (for Larry Dobie and Jackie Robinson)

Also, as long we're featuring a Jack Brickhouse video above, enjoy this Harry Caray video below. It's a commercial from 1980. He was with the White Sox at the time and wasn't exactly getting the big sponsors yet...

If you have any Cubs songs you've written or discovered, let us know and we'll feature it on a future episode of "Sights & Sounds." E-mail our editor-in-chief Rick Kaempfer at rick@justonebadcentury.com
