SIGHTS

This is the team photo of the 1939 Chicago Cubs. There were a few legends on that team, including future Hall of Famers Gabby Hartnett, Billy Herman, and Dizzy Dean.

Hopes were high 70 years ago for the defending NL Champs, as they went through their Spring Training rituals on Catalina Island. Ever wonder what Spring Training was like in those days? Wonder no more. I recently found this video of the 1939 Cubs in action that spring. Gabby and Dizzy are both in the video.

Unfortunately for the Cubs and their fans, they only finished in fourth place that year.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Cubs, we're going to feature at least audio memory from that year every month at JOBC. This month it's the musical stylings of Johnny Frigo, and his classic "Hey Hey Holy Mackeral." It was EVERYWHERE in the summer of 1969.
