Mission Statement

GEORGE MITTERWALD

Acquired in a trade for clean shaven catcher Randy Hundley, Mitterwald started the 1970s mustachioed Cubs catcher tradition. Swisher, Rader, Cox, Foote, and Blackwell would all follow in his bushy footsteps before the end of the decade. Some would surpass his mustachioed prowess, but none would bring the lumber to the plate like big ol' George. He hit 26 home runs for the Cubs.

Granted, that was in four full seasons, but still...

If you see George wish him a happy birthday. He turns 63 on Friday.
