An explosion in the ninth gave the Giants the three runs. Paul Derringer (left) was on the mound for the Cubs.

*A's catcher George George punches ump Joe Rue and gets suspended. Three days later his teammate Dick Fowler no-hits the St. Louis Browns, 1-0.
