ROD BECK

One of the things that is most impressive about Rod Beck's mustache is that he sported that hairy lip a good fifteen years after it was out of style.

Beck was an important part of the 1998 Cubs team that made the playoffs. His arm was hurt and hanging by a thread, and everyone knew his velocity was nearly non-existent, but Beck still managed to save over 50 games that season.

He was a favorite of the fans and his teammates, but his stay in Chicago was short indeed. In the middle of the following season he was traded to Boston for Mark Guthrie, who later gave up several key hits in the 2003 playoffs for the Cubs.

Beck's story doesn't have a happy ending (he was found dead at the age of 38), but Cubs fans will always remember him fondly for his contributions to the 1998 season, and that mustache, which clearly belongs in the mustache hall of fame.
